Our Bronx Center

In New York City thousands of children diagnosed with autism go without the therapies that can transform their lives.

Together we can bring them the help they need.

Struggling the most are children in the Bronx living in poverty. These children are more likely to have developmental delays, but least likely to receive the treatment they need.

As children in the Bronx sit on waiting lists for months—sometimes years—just to receive an evaluation, the most crucial developmental period in their lives passes by.

When they finally do receive an autism diagnosis, there are no early intervention centers in the Bronx able to meet their needs. They go back on waiting lists, while their families hope desperately that centers over an hour away might have an opening.

The impact of a delay in treatment is immeasurable. Without access to vital services, the children regress. They can stop talking, walking, crawling, and usually develop extreme behavioral issues.

The McCarton Center is an NYS approved provider of early intervention services. The Early Intervention Program (EIP) is a public program for infants and toddlers with special needs. Children with diagnosed conditions that lead to developmental delays (such as Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism, etc.) are eligible for the EIP. Children with no diagnosis who have delays in development may be eligible for the EIP if their delays are serious enough. If you have concerns about your child’s development, call 311 to learn more the Early Intervention Program.

We’re on a mission to bring life-changing therapeutic programs to children with autism in the Bronx.

Our early intervention center in the heart of this underserved community will be able to provide high-quality treatment and services at no cost to more than 160 children every day. That’s 160 children who will receive the behavioral, speech, and occupational therapies they desperately need. And that’s 160 families who can have hope that their children will reach their full potentials.
