A Firm Foundation:
By combining educational and therapeutic programs with structured peer interaction, the Lower School is designed to create a firm foundation for future learning and communicating. In line with studies suggesting that 35 to 40 hours per week of intensive Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) therapy results in the most progress for children diagnosed with ASD, our school day begins at 8:45 AM and ends at 5:45 PM.
Each child’s schedule is customized based on age and skill level. Our young learners receive one-on-one instruction from an integrated model that allows speech and occupational therapists to work together with our educational ABA staff to ensure each child’s unique needs are met.
Social Skills and Play Time:
The McCarton School encourages building leisure skills and cultivating new interests that students are able to enjoy outside the classroom. Bicycle and scooter riding, board games, art, and sports are enjoyed in group settings where students can develop socially with their peers. Adaptive Physical Education is taught with scaffolding and support to ensure that students learn sports, team participation, and good sportsmanship in a way they can understand and enjoy. We also take advantage of what our Chelsea neighborhood has to offer by having weekly community outings where our students grow and test the skills they are developing.
